First Meal – February 13thOur old Red76 cohort Cassandra Troyan is residing in Chicago these days, so it seemed fitting to hold the first dinner / conversation within the Occupy Yr. Home series at her place. The first meal will be held on February 13th and we’re eagerly anticipating its arrival. Expect the first run of documents from OYH to follow soon after. One of the reasons we have come upon doing OYH at all is through an exhibit, opening at the Smart Museum at the University of Chicago on February 15th, called FEAST: Radical Hospitality in Contemporary Art. The curator, Stephanie Smith, was interested in having a portion of the exhibit discuss Revolutionary Table. In the conversations we held with Stephanie it seemed relevant for us to reconsider the space, nature, and time of those meals (at the height of the Bush Era) and how we might view them today. So, while OYH isn’t per se a sequel to Revolutionary Table, it is like so many of our projects informed by past ideas, and utilizes tools that we have used in the past and will most definitely utilize in the future. To gain an understanding of how Red76 see The Table as a form of publication, a tool for the formation of horizontal social space, check out this essay (Under Construction: for Missy Elliot, William Blake, and Matthew Stadler) that R76 member Sam Gould wrote which will be published in the upcoming issue of the JRS (#14), due out around late February. | ![]() 334528316_b8ee49962b | ![]() L17047 | ![]() old-world-round-dining-table-54-in | ![]() OldTableInHouse07 | ![]() refreshing_a_very_old_table_top_01 |
